I like playing online scrabble and there is a basic chat facility there. Occasionally someone asks which country I'm from and on seeing "Australia" they invariably write "g,day" (not the correct g'day) or some variation.
I remember once in chat writing "g'gay" and nug went into hysterics!
Another time a male thought I was female and wanted to get to know me.

Last time I was in the farm supply store, I accidentally said "yes ma'am" to the male cashier that was ringing me up. Immediately corrected myself, laughed, said I don't know why I said that. He said no problem nothing offends him. He was born in the 70s he said and nothing offends his generation. I said I was born in the 50s and nothing offends us, ever. Then the female cashier chirps up "Well I was born in the 90s and nothing offends us!" So it opened a whole conversation with lots of laughter.
