I'm overdosing today. Started out with the Orioles/Blue Jays, next the Brewers/Yankees, now the Cubs/Diamondbacks. Have yet to go multiple screens.
Mother is in the basement watching QVC.
What are the odds of the Athletics clinching the World Series at home this year (i.e., Sac-Town)?
Answer: >0.
(I put one dollar down on that bet in Vegas...(better spent cash than otherwise for common Vegas' expenditure...
Not sure what you what a dollar will buy in Las Vegas these days. It certainly will not attract the attention of exotic dancers, even in the "off the strip" establishments.
"...just gotta grind it out..."--Bill "Rock" Schroeder, calling color commentary on today's KC/MIL game, as the crowd doesn't really boo, but audibly groans through another lopsided loss.
Look what Ohtani did...Babe Ruth hoists a drink in salute, admitting ever so slight inferiority. OMG.
First PIT walk-off hit versus NYY since the big one: 1960 WS (Maz).
Eat it, NYY.
To be very clear (not that you were inaccurate).............it was not a HR, as was Maz"s.

I was on a school bus at Main and Bailey in Buffalo, New York listening to the game on my transistor radio when he hit that home run.
Who could be surprised ARI walks it off versus MIL? They're the second or third best team in the NL...Crew at times fourth or fifth...occasionally six/seven/eight...
In the Angels/Astros game last night in Houston, Mike Trout reached over the wall in foul territory, caught the ball, had full control with both feet on the ground. A fan had both hands on Trout's glove and was able to tear the ball out of the glove. On video review, the umpires called it a foul ball, but the Astros booted the guy.
That's B.S. -- But there must have been a rule change some time ago that I was not aware of. As a former member of the noble profession of umpiring, I'm saying that that would have been an out all day (or night) long. However, two things must have been changed - at least at MLB level. "Used to be"........that it didn't matter whether or not the ball was in foul territory. Fan interference was fan interference - and thus the batter would be out. But according to what the announcers were saying, over the wall in foul territory, anything goes. What?!?! Are knives , battery acid, and garottes fair use? That was news to me. (Although there was always some gray area involving (degree of) fan intent.) Secondly - also 'at play' here - was the concept of "voluntary removal" of a caught ball from a glove. If it comes out after a catch due to some 'in control' action of the fielder, it's still an out. If it comes out due to not being able to fully control 'the catch', then it's not. That 'rule' (don't quote me on how it was worded) was instituted decades ago to clarify what was a true "catch". Before that..........imagine a scenario in which an outfielder, clearly and cleanly making a catch on a fly ball for the third out. But as he turns to run back to the dugout, he playfully flips his glove to make the ball pop out of his glove into his throwing hand, but drops it. Apparently, that used to be classified as an error - if it happened quickly. But that got wisely changed. In any event, in this instance, that was a completed catch. No matter what, he held it long enough, regardless of the interference, to be declared an out. IMO (noting that I have not kept up with such rule nuances, which have apparently been revised, in at least 2.5 decades).
Edit/update: I hadn't noticed that the ball apparently touched the fan first. Hard to tell, but I think it did - or at least that was the ruling. That, of course, changes things, and indeed it's then a dead ball:
Fan reaches into Mike Trout's glove to snatch a catch from Angels outfielder | AP News
To give you an idea of the depth of character of Mike Trout: his protests immediately after the play got to fan removed from his seat. The fan apparently wasn't thrown out of the stadium because Trout met the guy under the stands after the game, signed a baseball for him, and shook his hand.
We love Ed.
Looking at his card photo, he sort of looks like a brunet Mark Fidrytch.
This might be the best DET nine since they lost to STL.
Verlander had the fourth most innings in that inning-eating rotation (186).
That was almost 20 years ago; they won 95 games - but only 3 CG (1 each by 3 guys, Verlander being one).
Yeah, that team was replete with bombers, too.
It's possible four of the NL West and Phillies make five best.
Cubs/Brewers/Mets decide rest playoff field? ATL?????
Your throwing these prognostications out in *April*? Well, maybe they'll turn out. But remember the old axiom, "Past results do not guarantee future performance".
I'm scared at how good CHC offense look sometimes.
No CHC TV on MLB.TV...but 670 is solid signal...big big contracts.
Arizona show many baseball fan today how good are...MIL know.
Each team has had a grand slam, and the lead.
I'm gonna watch the replay of that crazy game I solely heard called on radio...the box score must even look wild.
The Reds' homerun clubhouse celebration has dudes thowin' dolla dolla bills all over, Benjamins...(Next bill floated into world markets: Trump on the D-note ($500).
“That broke my cup,” Contreras said, according to an article from MLB.com. “But I feel good. Everything’s there.”
Churrio hitting it off Big Mac Land facing was cool...it has to be hit into the section for a Big Mac, but maybe everybody in there today gets coupon for small order of fries, or, maybe GWHR-hero Arenado makes it free new McCrispy Strips they're supposedly adding permanently?
It's five buck beer at Comisky tonight, like Happy Hour all game...ready to be rowdy.
I've never had an espresso martini, but I suspect I'd love it...I'm already addicted to coffee, chocolate, and, to a lesser extent thankfully, alcohol.
That sounds like $5 beer is supposed to be cheap. I fear that that thought might actually be correct, which is a very sad thing. So what is a cup of beer normally at a big league game these days, something like $8? ($10?(!!)) Sumpin' tells me I probably don't want to know..........
The cheapest beer ($3.25) is at the park where they need it the most. Coors Field in Denver currently is home to the worst team in baseball, with a historically awful start. They are 4-25, the worst since the late 1800s.
$3.25 seems 'reasonable' (in this day and time). So where does that leave the $5 price point? And didn't some team relatively recently start out 0-15, or something like that???
In this stat-heavy world, we get bombarded with really dumb streaks, "records", and "best" declarations that are totally meaningless. ("Most homers in 15 at-bats by a Marlin under the age of 24"). This one is a bit specific, but not horribly so.
Through 25 games, last year's White Sox were 3-22, tied with several teams (2022 Reds, 2003 tigers). The Rockies were 4-21, alone in fourth place all time.... IN THE WILDCARD ERA (since 1995). In the Modern Era, (since 1901), the 1988 Orioles stand alone at 2-23.
The Rockies record is the worst through 29 games since 1894. Not sure why we are tracking this other than "because we can."
Yeah, we've discussed the WAY OVERBOARD use of stats/data to 'create' such weird 'facts'. IF IF IF I remember correctly, that somebody *did* start 0-15 or whatever, that's certainly a worse start than 4-25 - at least in *my* stat book. Just sayin'.
But if one *does* call 4-25 the worst start thru 29 games.............then one might get a different 'answer' for "thru 28 games", or "thru 30 games", etc., correct? So the point obviously being that the 29-game is merely a random marker point in time, I think.
True. MLB.com has not fully succumbed to stat-a-palooza, and their next benchmark is first 50 games. We'll see if the Rockies can get it together by then.
I recall with yet a bit of awe the Tigers' '84 start: 30-5...that would be hard to accomplish now, even if the Dodgers took on a random AAA club 35 times.
I got to see that Tiger team - in old Tiger Stadium. Yeah, they had players 💪.
