Dolly does Queen - and the Olympics - at the same time:
Dolly Parton - We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You (Official Music Video) - YouTube
The original: The Four Seasons
It's debatable, I guess, how "really different" this is, but after several second and third thoughts, here it is. In any event, it's a nice groove, and an unexpected cover:
I already mentioned Dolly covering Queen (3 posts back), so this is more about Dolly showing off her 77-yr. old figure - I guess. Thought about putting this in a sports thread, but that definitely wouldn't fit properly. You go girl:

Speaking of Dolly reminds me of her sister, who did a few interesting things in her career as well.
Gotta look up Dolly's sister. what's her name?
The harpist in the video Hop linked above, Indiara Sfair, is considered world-class. She also does some duets/duo stuff with the guitar guy, Tiago Juk. Her style seems slightly 'theatric'(?) to me, but that's just my own personal taste (which is more blues-oriented). Lots of her on the 'net, for those who want to hear more of her prominently featured, but I'll leave it for each to follow their nose for those examples.

Can it get any better than this one when you only have one guitar at your disposal?

Here’s an odd cover but anyone ever see the clip of Jessica Lange covering Bowie’s Life on Mars? ..I love it. It was for a show, American Horror Story. Only watched a few seasons AHS and didn’t like that one, but adored her cover. Apparently she didn’t need direction, I read somewhere she just showed up that day and did her thing. Folks liked it so much the show creator made it available on iTunes.
Here’s a link to vid: https://youtu.be/2zX0lxiM8Xo?feature=shared
I also LOVE the Fiona apple cover of the Beatles’ Across The Universe she did for the movie Pleasantville. My fave director, P.T. Anderson, directed the music vid:

I’d *normally* not accept a cover of either of these already great songs, but I love them both.
Just rewatched the F. Apple cover, man it’s so good. She’s such a badass, imo. And PTAs vid is a beautiful way to encompass that song. Akin to a prayer you can watch. And a nice lift for those days when the world seems a bit divisive.
The Fiona Apple cover certainly made a splash. My son received a bit on an eyebrow raise when he proclaimed to me that it was much better than the Beatles' original.
The Jessica Lange cover was, as you said, odd. It might have sprung from someone telling Lange: "I want you to sing that song as if you are Madeline Kahn channeling Marlene Dietrich."
Back to Pleasantville: I never watched it, and I was surprised to see Jenny Lewis as part of the cast. I have only known Lewis from her singing career with Rilo Kiley and as a solo artist.
Why are you surprised to see Jenny, Buzz? She’s also a badass! She prob liked the movie’s themes. You should watch. We have similar tastes I think and it’s a beautiful film. For the time especially, I thought it was great. Is still great, imo. Not too heavy but not as cheesy as it looks.
Has a beautiful message, basically to shatter small mind sets and learn to embrace that which lie outside the norm, which has been done many times yes, but I never tire of it bc it’s a good one.
I’ll prob rewatch today. And listen to Fiona & Jenny, ha. Thnx for reminder on Rilo Kiley. Haven’t listened to either in a while but both played major parts in soundtrack of my teens /early 20s.
Ps, to your son’s credit, I’ve known musicians who felt cringey to say they like her cover as much as og. It does feel like heresy to ever declare a Beatles cover as better than theirs, esp a deep one like this.. It’d be diff if it were poppy-maxwells silver hammer or similar. But Apple held her own w this, folks have to give it to her. + I don’t think she was so bold to try for better or even as good, but as a nod to a song she loves. Glad she wasn’t intimidated to try. But what can you expect, it’s why she’s a badass.
PSS- had a roommate whose sis looked near identical to Fiona. Also know a pretty decent Lewis doppelgänger. Life must have conjured them based on playlists, ha.
I'm fascinated with this song

and this cover

because it took me so long to figure out it's the same song
I'm Blue
But it ate away in my brain til the other day when it came together
I truly love them both
I have a couple.
No question these two have plenty of soul to go around.
I'm gonna make you love me - Dusty Springfield and Tom Jones
Less soul in this one, Shaun Cassidy would have fit in.

Some few of you may consider this heresy of some sort.........but I think it's a smooth, solid take. Nice drums/steel drums:
My hometown NPR station (operated by the local college) was bit off the usual path. No classical music hours or local gardener talk shows. They were pretty much alt-rock when they weren't broadcasting the NPR news programs. And, they had a weekly reggae program. I heard that song more than a few times. Top drawer!
This is a bit "too country" for my taste, but it *is* a really different (and well done) cover:
